Leftover Food Brings Hope To Campus Dogs

The Bozok Environment and Nature Club has been caring for vulnerable, elderly, and disabled dogs on campus for approximately 10 years. Every day at mealtimes, club members personally collect food waste (leftover food) from the Central Dining Hall and deliver it to the campus Dog Care Shelter. Club Advisor Prof. Dr. Esra Gedik calls on students to be more mindful about keeping food waste separate from other rubbish in the Central Dining Hall.

The Bozok Environment and Nature Club at Yozgat Bozok University helps ensure that uneaten food from the campus dining hall is put to use and delivered to campus animals. Through activities carried out by students under the academic supervision of Prof. Dr. Esra Gedik, food waste is prevented while campus animals are provided with food. “We are carrying out a sustainable recycling project using the leftover food we collect,” says Club Advisor Prof. Dr. Esra Gedik, adding, “We ask our fellow students not to mix food scraps with other rubbish in the Central Dining Hall.”

Food Destined for the Bin Reaches Our Animal Friends

Uneaten food scraps from the campus dining hall are collected in designated areas labelled “Food Waste.” The collected food is intended to help feed stray animals. The initiative aims to prevent food waste from being mixed with other rubbish and going to waste.
